Before installing or uninstalling Java applications, you need to make sure all Internet Explorer windows are closed
Each application might require a different Java runtime application. Currently Sun Microsystems website is offering the latest version Java 6 Runtime 14. That doesn’t mean it will work with your web application which was developed and tested under Java 6 runtime 6 or Java 6 runtime 7 and so on.
Please follow the steps below to troubleshoot your java web application issue
1. Go to Program Manager (Start à Control Panel à Program Manager), remove/un-install all Java environment applications installed (System reboot not required).
2. Go to Internet Explorer Objects folder (Right click on Internet Explorer icon and choose: Internet Properties àThen under Browser history section, click on “Settings” button àThen click on “View Objects” button). Delete all Java Runtime environments one by one by clicking on it and then press the “Delete” key on your keyboard. Ignore the error messages it will prompt you by clicking “Ok” button on the prompt window.
3. Close all Internet Explorer sessions then try opening the website which you were having trouble with to see if it prompts you to download the Java application. Keep in mind sometimes it takes 5-10minutes before the website prompts you to install Java. As long your Internet Explorer progress bar still pending, that means it is still downloading. Once you get the prompt to install Java environment, go ahead and install it and test afterwards.
If the website doesn’t prompt automatically to install the correct Java application, you can manually download it from this website which I highly recommend: http://www.oldapps.com/java.php
